In preparation for Geyser (our Fringe Festival Installation) I have started compiling precedent images of ephemeral interior landscapes. Whilst doing this I stumbled across the artist Karen Margolis’ work ‘The Enso’ which takes the notion of the circle and applies it through opposing procedures – damage (burning) and mending  (construction).

What I think Karen does quite successfully (besides choosing a beautiful and calming palette) is create a true body of work. She has set up her brief and tested the responses across a range of mediums. The effect is a collection of pieces that are highly textural and emotive and read as a set. Other ideas that Karen plays with within her installations/artworks are light,  illusion and the human body. All have equally as tantalising results.
